Volleyball Perseveres in Five-Set Win at Evansville

first_img Full Schedule Roster Live Stats EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Led by 20 kills from Emily Plock, the Drake University volleyball rallied in the fifth set to defeat Evansville, 3-2, Friday evening. The Bulldogs held a 2-0 lead in the match before Evansville stormed back to tie the match. However, the Bulldogs returned to form to win the match by set scores of 25-23, 26-24, 10-25, 15-25, 15-8. The win snapped Drake’s (8-14, 2-7 MVC)  seven-match losing streak and was the team’s first MVC road win of the season.Fourteen of Plock’s kills came in the first two sets to help the Bulldogs win those frames before stumbling in sets three and four. Michelle Rabbitt had 12 kills and three blocks while Gillian Gergen continued to excel with nine kills and a block. Defensively, three Bulldogs registered double figures in digs to help keep the Purple Aces at bay. Kylee Macke led the way with 24, followed by 17 from Madi Ford and 13 from Plock, who recorded her seventh-straight double-double.Evansville (14-6, 5-4 MVC) was paced by 24 kills from Rachel Tam and 22 from Alondra Vazquez. Gabriela Macedo added a school-record 46 digs in the loss. Facing the prospect of dropping three-straight sets to the Purple Aces, Drake used a 5-1 run to take an 8-4 lead in the fifth set. Rabbitt accounted for four of the Bulldogs’ points during that run to help the Bulldogs take command of the set.Plock and Riley Dolphin, who was playing in just her second match of the season after returning from a 2018 injury, helped seal the match with two blocks in the final two points. Both those blocks came against the Aces’ hot hitter, Tam, who also had two errors down the stretch to aid the Bulldogs in preserving their win. The match was the Bulldogs third of four straight on the road as they travel to Indiana State next for a 4 p.m. match Saturday.  Story Links Preview Print Friendly Versioncenter_img Watch Live Next Game: Box Score (PDF) at Indiana State 10/26/2019 – 4 p.m.last_img read more
