Employees just want to fit in with your credit union

I’m amazed at how much information they are absorbing.  And I do my best to funnel the information they receive. My wife and I hope to empower them to be smart, independent people who look out for their fellow man.  I also hope they aren’t the subject of a COPS episode.  So we try to teach them life lessons whenever we can.But here’s the thing – they often teach Mandy and me a few things. Take this photo for example.  This was from a few years back. It looks nice enough.  Smiling kids.  No scratch or bite marks, at least on that day.But did you notice Briggs?   He’s holding his purse.  Kate has a wonderful purse that she treasures above all other things.  Briggs saw her one day with a purse, and announced that he wanted a purse as well.  I told him that purses are for girls, but I didn’t really press the issue.Well, he somehow found that bag and adopted it.  It became Briggs’ purse.  I told him, gently, that girls use purses.  Men use wallets.  And manly men use money clips.  (I use a wallet, by the way.)  Briggs replied that “Daddy has a purse.”  I simply dropped the matter.Later that week, I was getting ready for work.  I went through my goodbye routine, which consists of a round of tickling, kisses and hugs.  As I walked away, Briggs said the following.Daddy, I want a purse like yours. I realized that I had my messenger/computer bag slung over my shoulder.  Here’s what it looks like:You know, that’s a purse.  Apologies, Briggs.I’ve thought about this a bit.  It must be so hard to be a three-year old. For a six-year-old, all you want to do is fit in.  You want to be like Mommy and Daddy. Like your sister.  Like Gamma and Grandpap.  You look for clues.  Kate has a purse.  Mommy has a purse.  And so does Daddy.  And so it must be for new employees.  They start a new job, and they want to fit in.  They want to succeed.  There’s the employee handbook.  There’s orientation.  But they’ll look to see what managers, directors, executives and board members do.  What they say.  How they act.  How they behave. They are always watching. And that’s a good thing to remember.last_img read more

University Students File Lawsuits Alleging “Inferior” Online Classes

first_imgShe reportedly paid $7,880 in tuition and fees for the spring semester.Meanwhile, the lawsuit filed last week in Leon County circuit court against the Board of Governors by University of Florida graduate student Anthony Rojas seeks only to obtain a refund of fees, and not tuition.“Plaintiff’s claims relate solely to fees paid by Florida residents for on-campus services and do not concern fees or costs for tuition and/or room and board because students were able to complete their courses and obtain their credits for the spring semester and because the universities have offered appropriate refunds relating to room and board, but not as to fees,” the Rojas lawsuit said. All three of the lawsuits make allegations such as breach of contract and “unjust enrichment.”While the Fagundez and Rojas lawsuits seek are seeking class action status on behalf of students throughout the university system, the Egleston case focuses only on the University of Florida.Judges will end up deciding whether to allow any or all of them to proceed as class action claims. A Florida International University student this week filed what is at least the third potential class-action lawsuit seeking refunds for students within the state university system. The latest complaint, like the others, alleges “inferior” online classes when campuses closed this spring due to the coronavirus pandemic.Attorneys for Sarah Fagundez, an FIU graduate student from Miami, filed the suit against the university system’s Board of Governors on Tuesday in Leon County circuit court.Meanwhile, University of Florida student Dylan Egleston filed a similar lawsuit on Monday against the UF Board of Trustees. That action also followed another case that was filed against the Board of Governors in circuit court.Fagundez argues that she and other students in the university system should receive refunds for parts of tuition and fees they paid for the spring and summer semesters.“Plaintiff (Fagundez) does not impugn defendant for taking measures to protect the public health; but the defendant must acknowledge that the education and services it now provides to students throughout the university system lack the full value of those for which plaintiff and the class paid,” Tuesday’s lawsuit against the Board of Governors said.It continues, “Not only is a fully online college experience inferior, socially and academically, to the in-person experience for which plaintiff and the class paid; but the university system’s ersatz online courses now offered to students are inferior to online courses that were conceived as such in the first instance.”last_img read more

So how come he can’t win the Heisman Trophy? After all is said and done, Antonio Brown should have seen the sideline.  He could have planted himself in Steeler folklore forever. That being said, I’ve got the Steelers in the upset over the Bengals on national TV Sunday night, New England to beat Miami and Detroit to beat the Ravens. Thus the Steelers stay alive another week. The catcher can’t block the plate now. Ag safety is not just a slogan, it’s a lifestyle

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest The title of this article is also the theme for the 2015 National Farm Safety and Health Week, observed September 20-26. The theme reminds local and rural communities that agriculture is one of the most dangerous industries in the U.S. This industry, which includes farming, forestry and fishing, accounts for nearly 500 fatalities each year (according to the U.S. Department of Labor, 2013).As the theme suggests, practicing safety is something we should do, not something we merely say. While it is great to profess our attitude for safety, it is better for us to practice it everyday in our daily actions. When safety is a part of our workplace routine, it becomes a way of life. Employees and employers work together to create a culture for safety.Having this culture for safety, brings to consideration an ancient proverb that safety professionals have adapted over time. It questions whether Safety is an end of a means, or a means to an end. Safety is an end of a meansIn other words, working all of our lives to be safe when we retire, is working towards a goal. This practice can also be noticed when companies post, rather prominently outside of their entrances, the number of work days with no recordable injuries. These companies may be working towards a specific goal where there is a bonus or incentive for workers to reach the end of a week, month, or year with no injuries. These are two examples where safety is viewed as the end of a means. Safety is a means to an endOn the other hand, when safety is a means to an end, it is simply a way we get to the endpoint. In this manner, Safety is likely a lifestyle. It is a method we use along the way. It is a practice we do every day, and in every season. The year 2015 marks the 71st year for the U.S. to observe National Safety and Health Week. In 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt set aside the third week of September as a time to celebrate the farmer and remind agricultural workers of safety practices needed to get them through another harvest season, and another year. The Ohio State University Agricultural Safety and Health Program promotes this commemorative week, but also has materials available throughout the year. A variety of outreach resources are developed for different farm operations, large or small, and a wide range of workforce ages, including safety messages for children or visitors who may not work on the farm. Many of these resources are provided at no cost on the website. Training programs are also available for agricultural groups and businesses looking for specific workplace issues. A monthly newsletter is published each month called Ag S.T.A.T.  This online publication shares short announcements of upcoming safety events, as well as delivers short safety messages for that particular time of year. All of these materials are available through the OSU Ag Safety Program website: www.agsafety.osu.edu or Facebook at OSU Ag Safety and Health. The OSU staff will also be at Farm Science Review conducting grain safety demonstrations in OSU Central during Farm Safety Week. Stop by and visit their team to answer your specific questions. Farming is a lifestyle, and so is workplace safety. The goal is to help every farm worker and farm family member get to the end of the year in the safest manner possible.last_img read more

Despite Living Online, Teenagers Don’t Want to “Like” Your Company on Facebook

first_imgA Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… john paul titlow Tags:#biz#tips Related Posts 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Marketcenter_img Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Teenagers in the United States are constantly connected to the Internet. About 75% of them go online on a daily basis, and that number increases every year. Whether they’re connected via their phones, gaming consoles, laptops or the computer lab at school, they’re online pretty much all the time. Social networking – on Facebook and elsewhere – is a huge part of what they’re doing. You’d think this would be a potential boon for social media marketers, right? Not quite. According to research released today by Forrester, only 6% of U.S. consumers aged 12-17 are interested in interacting with brands on Facebook, even though they are active users of the site in general. In fact, that age group is even more likely than 18-24 year-olds to be what the report refers to “conversationalists”, or people who routinely post status updates to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Teenagers do use social media to discuss brands and products, but they want to initiate the conversation, rather than having the brand do so. “While only 16% of young consumers expect companies to use social tools to interact with them, 28% expect companies to listen to what they’re saying on social networks and respond if they have questions,” says the report. One of the challenges may be establishing trust. According to Forrester, most 12-17 year-olds said they trust search engine results and television. Almost 50% even said they could trust a company’s website, but only 26% said they feel they can trust a company’s profile on a social networking site. It may just be that young people are accustomed to using social networking sites to interact with their real-world friends, something that is obviously very central to the lives of teenagers, probably more so than your latest social media marketing campaign. While bombarding young consumers with marketing messages via Facebook probably isn’t a winning strategy, listening to them – as with consumers of any age group – could hardly be more important.
