first_img Super Bowl LI was pretty eventful, or at least that’s what people tell me. There was an upset victory, #brands like Coke and Airbnb decided that love trumping hate is better for profits, there was the ghost dog of famous beer spokesdog Spuds MacKenzie, phone companies got into BDSM, and many Crying Jordans were photoshopped. But here on Geek.com the big thing about the Big Game are all the big commercials for big upcoming movies and games and cleaning products. Here are, in order, our favorite Super Bowl 2017 trailers.12. Transformers: The Last KnightRounding out the bottom of the list the latest trailer for the inevitably terrible new Transformers movie. The Last Knight raises so many questions. Anthony Hopkins meets Mark Wahlberg? Optimus Prime turns evil? What am I even looking at? Can anyone possibly care?11. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No TalesJohnny Depp barely appears in this fifth, extremely expensive-looking Pirates of the Caribbean trailer. Plus it looks like some of the crazy dense lore of the underrated third might come into play. These are all good signs, even if the movie will still probably be bad.10. A Cure For WellnessAfter getting all the Disney bloat out of his system with Pirates of the Caribbean and The Lone Ranger, Gore Verbinski mixes thing up with a psychological horror film about a sinister “wellness center.’ Verbinski tried to make a BioShock movie for years, and you can maybe see that influence here.9. BaywatchIf 21 Jump Street can work as a modern, meta comedy, who says Baywatch can’t? Plus, The Rock is in it, so it can only be so bad.8. Ghost in the ShellWe’re still not convinced this live-action update of the classic anime is entirely necessary, but these commercials sure are stylish.7. LifeThe latest entry is a surprisingly strong, recent trend of realistic-ish sci-fi movies, Life follows a group of astronauts on the International Space Station studying the first, possibly dangerous, sample of life from Mars.6. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2You already know you’re going to see the follow-up to Marvel’s cosmic hang-out movie Guardians of the Galaxy. So here’s some new footage. You’re welcome.5. LoganWolverine’s Japan adventure was almost a real movie. So here’s hoping that returning director James Mangold, X-23, old Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart, and an R-rating can finally push the franchise over the edge.4. Fate of the Furious$20 bucks says this rogue Vin Diesel is actually an evil clone. It’s time for this franchise to go full Metal Gear Solid. A villain named Cipher is a promising first step.3. Stranger ThingsLast summer’s Netflix hit won’t return until this Halloween, but rest assured that new horror-tinged, 1980s childhood adventures will be available to stream soon.2. Nintendo SwitchNintendo debuted its first Super Bowl commercial ever for its upcoming console/handheld hybrid. Check out our earlier article for more takes.1. Sexy Mr. CleanFinally, a mascot for a cleaning product we can have sex with. It’s time to put Scrubbing Bubbles in the friend zone.
