Al-Lami was previously the target of a murder attempt in September 2008, when a dynamite charge was set off outside the building that houses the union. In Basra, two men on a motorcycle – one in a policeman’s uniform and one in civilian dress – threw a grenade into the garden of Al-Ahmed’s home on 17 March, seriously injuring his brother’s daughter but no one else. The target was clearly Al-Ahmed himself, who is the manager of radio Sindibad and editor of the independent weekly Al-Amani.Reporters Without Borders has meanwhile learned that the Basra press is currently refusing to cover the activities of the US and British military forces in protest against the way soldiers manhandled journalists during a news conference at which work permits were supposed to have been issued. A number of journalists were detained for several hours after the incident. A US military spokesman has sent a letter of apology to the Basra media. December 16, 2020 Find out more

A Harley Davidson shop at the corner of Sunrise and Newbridge was damaged along with four homes, three of which were evacuated. A Bellmore fire department spokesman said the fire was under control in about 90 minutes. The driver of the truck and the car were both taken to local hospitals, where they were treated for minor injuries.Town of Hempstead officials said they are working with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to keep the fuel from entering storm drains and contaminating local waterways using sand “dams” that absorb and contain the fuel.Town building inspectors are checking on local buildings damaged. Town officials also opened a warming center at Merrick Road Golf Course Clubhouse to accommodate residents who lost power or suffered fire damage to their homes.Road crews will salt the road to melt frozen water left by firefighters. Police are continuing the investigation into the cause of the crash.Firefighters battle a tanker truck fire Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 (Photo by Vincent Scaduto, Bellmore Fire Department)Click “next” for more photos from the blaze.
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest At the end of May, something groundbreaking occurred for the livestock industry as Superior Livestock Auction conducted the first online fed cattle sale.“I would say it was a very successful day,” said Ed Greiman, chairman of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association’s (NCBA) Cattle Marketing and International Trade Committee. “There were 1,600 head of cattle sold, which is where many sellers thought the market was going to be.”The bigger news is that a lot of people were watching, so much so that the website hosting the sale went down as a result of too many people logging on.“This is all about price discovery — showing people that there is a cash market out there and adding to the fundamentals,” Greiman said. “We’re not worried about how much volume is on the sale, it’s really all about moving some cattle.”The glitches, that can be expected any time something new like this is attempted, will be worked out and Greiman said with each week that goes by, the online sales will go more smoothly.“I talked to some farmers, like myself, that had cattle in this initial sale,” Greiman said. “We all plan to put more in the sale next week and watch this effort slowly build.”The main goal for starting to sell fed cattle online is to provide transparency.“Three of the major packers looked at the cattle and were active on bidding,” Greiman said. “We also saw many regional packers taking part in the sale and the best part is we saw a lot of participation. Not one packer bought all of the cattle and we also had packers selling their cattle, which is good news too.”These new, innovative tools will lead the cattle industry in a new direction in the future and will give producers another avenue to sell cattle, rather than just putting them on a formula and handing them over to the packer. Greiman is hoping that lawmakers will take notice of the success of these new ideas for marketing cattle.“We need to be clear to Congress that cattlemen are trying to fix their own problem,” Greiman said. “So, if we need more price discovery and the industry needs to see what fat cattle are bringing, this is one of the solutions. The best part is that this is a solution that was thought up by cattlemen who are selling the cattle.”

This morning, Amazon launched its Amazon Appstore Developer Portal, the first step towards the creation of its own Android App Store, which will exist outside the official Google Android Market. The Amazon Store has been the most highly anticipated of all third-party efforts to date, mostly because of Amazon’s brand name recognition, business model and potential for marketplace disruption.Change #1: CurationAlthough there are several “alternative” Android app stores – that is, in fact, the beauty of the platform – Amazon’s will likely be the first to have a major impact on the Android development community.Unlike the official Market and other third-party sites, Amazon’s application submission model is going to more closely follow Apple’s when it comes to which apps will be allowed into the new marketplace. Currently, the Android Market is somewhat of a free-for-all – Google only steps in when the application developer is in violation of its Terms of Service, Terms which basically prevent harmful apps or malware from making their way to users’ phones and tablets. However, in Amazon’s case, apps will be reviewed to ensure that they work properly as outlined by the developer. They also must be safe, both in terms of consumer data privacy and impact to the mobile device itself. Could that mean no more battery-draining apps? No more “is this malware?” concerns? It sounds like it.Those rules are not all that different than Google’s own requirements, but the way Amazon is going about enforcing them is: it will check apps prior to app store deployment, not after problem apps are spotted in the wild. Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Related Posts Tags:#Amazon#Android#mobile In addition, the review process will be far more open than Apple’s. Apps don’t disappear into a black hole after submission, for sometimes months at a time, but their progress can be tracked at any time using the developer’s Dashboard within the Developer Portal.Amazon will also enforce some general guidelines: apps cannot be offensive, illegal, infringe on intellectual property or copyright and cannot contain pornography. However, Amazon notes that it doesn’t want to stifle innovation by prescribing what constitutes good app design, it says. “Amazon is a big believer in innovation in general,” reads an FAQ on the Developer Portal, “and we hope to feature many creative and innovative apps in the Appstore.”It’s a small change in some ways, but in reality, it could have a long-lasting effect on the Android ecosystem. One of the problems – or benefits, depending on how you see things – with the open model supported by Google, is that it doesn’t help weed out problem developers, amateur efforts and buggy apps. That means browsing for an app in the official Market can end up being a decidedly hit-or-miss experience. The best, most popular apps are in there, right alongside the apps that can’t even manage to launch properly without throwing an error message on the screen.Amazon will force developers in coding for quality if they want to play in what’s clearly going to be one of the larger secondary app markets going forward.Change #2: PricingThe curated aspect of Amazon’s Appstore, as unique as it is to the Android ecosystem, is not the only change. The biggest change developers will be facing is the pricing model. Instead of the standard 70/30 split, developers tell Amazon what price they would like Amazon to list the app at. But Amazon doesn’t have to sell it at that – it will sell it at whatever price it sees fit. Developers will still see a 70% cut of revenue generated, unless Amazon’s deeply discounts the app or offers it for free. Then developers are promised a 20% cut or the original list price. Or, in other words, Amazon pays developers 70% of the sale price or 20% of the list price, whichever is greater. While some developers may balk at these pricing changes, you still must acknowledge that Amazon’s experience as a successful online retailer at least gives it some idea of how to market and sell goods, physical or virtual. And being listed in Amazon doesn’t prevent developers from selling at whatever price they choose in Google’s Android Market – the only requirement is that both applications must be updated at the same time.Other Potential BenefitsThere are few other reasons why Amazon’s model could prove successful outside of its brand recognition, curation and pricing model. For one, we don’t know yet what its actual user interface will look like. If Amazon’s appstore can offer a better end user experience that the Android Market (and let’s face it, that wouldn’t be overly challenging to do), both developers and consumers would benefit. Amazon may also use its online retailing portal Amazon.com and the localized versions to promote the applications. Amazon also has an established payments system trusted by end users and it works in more countries than Google Checkout. Although the new Appstore is U.S.-only at launch, it would be downright shocking if that remained the case in the long run. Finally, there’s a chance that Amazon is developing this marketplace in the advance of its own Amazon Android tablet. (It has been rumored). If so, the Amazon appstore would be present on a brand-name iPad competitor. If you have read this humble blog for a significant amount of time, you know I believe you can be more, do more, have more, and contribute more, mostly in that order. The starting point is becoming more than you are right now by creating a transformational breakthrough, which we might define as the point at which you stop being one thing and become another. You may, for example, decide to stop being an average salesperson and become a consultative, trusted advisor. Your transformational breakthrough might see your metamorphosis from “sales manager” to “leader,” from a title on an organizational chart to a role you play in the lives of others. Your breakthrough transformation might see you go from “couch potato” to “athlete.”Whatever you are now, and whatever you are becoming, here is how you create your transformational breakthrough:Let Go of What You AreTo become something else, you must let go of what you are now. There may not be any more powerful force than your identity, what you tell yourself and others you are.If you have ever heard someone say something like, “I am a procrastinator,” they were sharing with you one of the ways they identify themselves—to themselves and others. You might hear someone describe themselves with words like, “I am a failure,” even when there is evidence to the contrary. One may procrastinate, and one may choose to identify that as what they are, but that is a behavior. You can fail without being a failure, as any person who finds success will attest. The truth is that your identity is malleable. You have the power to change what you believe you are and become something else whenever you want. You can be one thing today and something altogether different tomorrow, should you decide to—and should you be willing to let go of what you are now.Find a ModelYou will find a lot of advice and platitudes about not comparing yourself to others, especially on the internet, where memes dominate. One of my favorite pieces of bad advice goes something like, “I don’t want to be better than anyone else; I just want to be better than I was yesterday.” As much as I appreciate the sentiment, it does set the bar pretty low. There is good reason to compare yourself to others when it comes to a transformational breakthrough. In most of the things that matter, what another person can achieve is also possible for you. Some people refuse to believe this, as it absolves them of the responsibility to change their identity and the actions that follow how they see themselves. Other people look at the success of others to find models of the beliefs and behaviors that will allow them to become something more, while also shortening the time it takes to create a breakthrough. It’s one thing to be better than you were yesterday, and it’s quite another to be the best version of yourself, to reach your full potential.Find someone who is already what you want to be, and study what they believe and what they do. It’s negative to compare yourself to others if you are trying to prove your superiority, and positive if you are comparing yourself to someone who is a model of what you aspire to become.Change What You Believe and What You DoYou have to give up what you are to become something more, and that starts with what you believe, your mindset, and what you do, your behaviors, actions, and habits. On December 27, 2009, I was not a writer, even though I had done a little writing. On December 28, 2009, I was a writer, even though it was only my first day as one, and even if I wasn’t very good at it. On one of those days, I believed writing was what one did. On the next day, I believed it was what one is. I have written every day since that day, the action following my decision to change my identity.I am not confident in which order these two things need to happen, as sometimes I have witnessed the change in belief before the change in behaviors, and other times I have seen the actions change, and the beliefs follow. That said, without both of the views and practices, you will not experience a transformational breakthrough. If you have an area of your life that you want to transform, make a list of your present beliefs and behaviors, and then write the beliefs and behaviors necessary for you to congruently occupy the space that is what you are becoming.Embrace the DiscomfortThe reason so many people struggle to become what they wish to be is because it comes with more than a little discomfort, especially when you have to explain to others that you are no longer what you once were.It isn’t easy to change your beliefs. We reject new beliefs, seeking instead to confirm our existing biases by looking for evidence that we are right—especially when powerful ideas conflict with our own. Looking at new beliefs causes a lack of comfort; you could be wrong, and you could have been mistaken for a very long time. New ideas threaten your identity, which is why you cannot have a transformational breakthrough without giving up what you believed (about yourself, about others, about how the world works, etc.).Nor is it easy to change your behaviors. Most of the habits you developed are burnt in from continually taking the same action over and over again. It took time for the habit to develop, and it is uncomfortable to break them. I used to sleep until 6:30 AM on weekdays. One day, I decided to set my alarm for 5:00 AM, giving myself time in the morning to do all the things I told myself I didn’t have time to do. The transition was painful, marked by a lack of sleep, a lack of clarity, and a general grouchiness. After a few weeks, the discomfort subsided. If you are not uncomfortable, you are not going to experience a transformational breakthrough. Discomfort is evidence you are changing.Choose Your IdentityHave you ever known anyone who can’t wait to tell others that they are a vegan? Or paleo? Or keto? Have you ever known someone who tells everyone they are a runner? When you see this behavior, a person is establishing part of their identity. They’re sharing with you a decision they have made, partly because they want you to identify them as such (along with what it means about them), and in part to burn in their identity, making it difficult for them to do things that are incongruent with who they say they are.The malleability of your identity is a very good thing. Today you may be one thing; tomorrow you may be another. Even if you haven’t ever thought about the idea in quite this way, you have likely already made several transformations in the course of your life. You called yourself one thing when you had a particular set of beliefs and behaviors and chose to call yourself something else after you changed. Essential Reading! The Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation (AMMC) of The Bahamas held the preview for which the Open House will take place on Sunday, November 12, 2017. Sponsor of the exhibition is Templeton World Charity Foundation, Inc.After experiencing two fires: one in 2001 and the other in 2011, the museum’s present state of renovation is the result of both local and international participation. Charred walls can still be seen inside the museum so as to keep as much history as possible because the museum is the actual place where slaves were auctioned in The Bahamas. The museum is not limited to the past. It showcases exhibits as early as 1648, but also contemporary issues such as human trafficking and smuggling. One must keep in mind that history is constantly being created.Executive Chairman of the Antiquities, Monuments and Museums Corporation, Reece Chipman talked about the importance of preserving our history by saying, “Without knowing who you are, it is hard to know where you are going.” He made it clear that a visit to Pompey Museum is important to Bahamians because, “Who we are is right here in this museum.”By: Sydnei L. Celtic Football Club manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed his delight with the competition for places in the club’s midfield position. The Scottish Premiership champions who’ve lost a captain and central midfielder, Scott Brown to injury have been impressive over the last few games.Callum McGregor’s success in the deep-lying playmaker role, coupled with the emergence of Ryan Christie and re-emergence of Scott Sinclair, has provided the Celtic with a balance and propulsion that is allowing them to produce their invincible treble season of two campaigns ago.Speaking about Scott Brown’s potential return to the starting lineup once he returns from injury and the competition the former Scotland international might face, Rodgers said, according to Scotsman:“We want all the boys back,” said the Irishman.”Match Preview: Manchester United vs Leicester City Boro Tanchev – September 13, 2019 Old Trafford is the venue for the Premier League encounter between Manchester United and Leicester City, which kicks off at 16:00 (CET) on Saturday.“But it’s what you want as a coach from the guys who have come into the team. Scott Sinclair looks back to his level, and Ryan [Christie] coming in has been like signing a new player, so it’s brilliant.”Talking about keeping his player’s motivated, the former Liverpool boss said:“That’s your job as manager and coach, to provide a stimulus for players to keep having the hunger.”“Part of that was to bring players in, we wanted to do that but it didn’t happen. Because you can be as good a coach as you want, but sometimes the best stimulus for players is competition. However that’s OK – let’s keep working to how we want to play, and as you saw against Leipzig, they’ve been fantastic.”
