Thurstin Named Head Rowing Coach at Stetson University

I am very lucky that Stetson and Drake are in the MAAC Conference so I have an excuse to keep an eye on Drake.” DeLand, Fla. – Drake University rowing assistant coach Katie Thurstin has been named head coach of Stetson University’s men’s and women’s rowing programs, Stetson Athletics announced on Wednesday, July 5. Prior to Drake, Thurstin served head coach of Denver University’s club rowing team in 2013 and was a member, private lessons instructor and an advanced program coach for the Rocky Mountain Rowing Club from 2004-2013. The Eagan, Minn., native was a member of the University of Minnesota rowing team for two seasons and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in global studies and a minor in Spanish. In addition to her role at Drake, Thurstin spent two seasons as the head coach of the Des Moines Rowing Club.Print Friendly Version Thurstin, who came to Drake in July, 2013, was in charge of the Bulldogs’ novice team and assisted with the day-to-day operations of the program and the recruitment of student-athletes. Under her leadership, the novice team achieved an increase in student-athletes and several boats over the past four seasons have achieved great success at different regattas and races. “I wish Katie good luck at Stetson,” said Drake head coach Charlie DiSilvestro. “She did so many great things for our program in four years.
