Two popular online programs—Skype and Google Calling—are available to those who cannot otherwise afford costly callsto and from overseas, especially if a service member is deployed.Skype is an online service that allows people to call each other for free using the Internet. Skype also offers other plans; however, users must pay for them. The free service offers Skype-to-Skype calls, one-to-one videos, instant messaging, and screen sharing.Google Voice provides service members with free calling to the United States when they are deployed overseas. Users must have a Google account and a valid military e-mail address (ending in .mil) to use the service.
