G Adventures embeds travellers into Local Living

first_imgIn the spirit of “freedom” and grand changes, G Adventures has introduced a new brand program, Local Living to offer travellers “authentic product and life-changing experiences”.As part of the Group’s new 2012 line-up unveiled this week, G Adventures New Zealand and Australia head honcho Pete Rawley explained the new tour style was designed based on feedback from the company’s travellers and meets growing demand from holiday-makers to blend into the visiting country.  With up to 120 new trips introduced to the tour company’s 2012 portfolio, Local Living is available on G Adventure’s Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Patagonia and Guatemala trips and builds on the idea of a homestay vacation which sees travellers embedded into the local life by staying in one place and actively exploring the region.“We’re very pleased to introduce a range of innovations into our tour programme for 2012, featuring industry-leading experiences which very few or no other tour operators offer,” Mr Rawley said. The tour operator has also stretched its arm into the accommodation sector, introducing G Lodge Amazon, an environmentally stay located in Tambopata National Reserve in Peru.Verified by the Rainforest Alliance, the lodge is equipped to use solar heat, rechargeable flashlights, meals prepared by local ingrediants while offering comfort through its bungalows, private terraces, en suite bathrooms and 24-hour hot water.“The lodge allows travellers to extend their experience by allowing them to eat, sleep and dream within the park itself,” the company said in a statement.Earlier this year G Adventures announced it would also be making its way into North America for the first time in its 21 year history.Tours through the US include overland road trips, standard hotel touring as well as active escapes. Larry Fitzgerald has been an Arizona Cardinal sinc

first_img Larry Fitzgerald has been an Arizona Cardinal since 2004, and in the nearly 12 years since he was selected third overall in the draft out of Pittsburgh, has become not only one of the league’s best receivers, but an incredible ambassador for the team.A nine-time Pro Bowler, one-time first-team All-Pro and the team’s career leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, Fitzgerald will no doubt go down as one of the best players in franchise history. Share However, in a sport where players are always looking for an edge, players like Blackmon believe part of Fitzgerald’s goal is to get his opponent to relax some and “then he’ll run and try to slam you.”Is that true? Has his on-field personality aided him in collecting 1,018 receptions, 12,366 yards and 98 touchdowns in 186 regular season games, along with another 45 catches, 736 yards and nine scores in seven playoff matchups?Maybe, but according to the 32-year-old, there is nothing sinister about how he approaches his opponents.“You’ve known me a long time — I’m just one of the guys, honestly,” he said Wednesday. “Guys talk crazy to me; I don’t usually say anything. We’re just talking regular. I’m not trying to lure anybody to sleep. He’s got a job to do, I’ve got a job to do. I’m just professional about my job.“I’m not trying to hurt anybody or do anything malicious, but at the end of the day, I’ve got a family to feed, just like he does, and we’re going to go out there and we’re going to give it our best, and the best man’s going to win. But, I think there’s a professionalism you can take to it, and I just try to be respectful of the game and be respectful of the players that play it, because this game was great before I got here and it’s going to be great after I leave. I just want to make sure I’m respectful of the game.” He will also go down as one of its best people, though in an article by the Wall Street Journal’s Kevin Clark, it seems as though there is a perception around the league that Fitzgerald’s kindness, at least on the field, comes with ulterior motives.Minnesota’s Captain Munnerlyn, sees the challenge in covering Fitzgerald having to do with more than just the receiver’s Hall-of-Fame level talent and great size.“I cannot take the bait,” Munnerlyn said. “I’ve got to yell and get angry, I’ve got to get on him. I can’t let him be so nice that I can’t get into game mode.”Clark also talked with Washington’s Will Blackmon on the subject of Fitzgerald’s niceness.“He’s asking how your family is,” said Washington Redskins cornerback Will Blackmon. “And then he’s trying to bomb you for 70 yards right after.”Atlanta’s Desmond Trufant has also felt victimized by Fitz.“He played against my brothers for years, he knew my whole family, so he asked about that,” said Trufant. “There was all this casual talk. I was thrown off. I’m trying to focus and he’s being a real good dude.”There are more quotes in the article, which was really well done, including some from retired corner Ike Taylor who pointed out that Fitzgerald has a knack for remembering details about everyone he meets and is one of the more respected players in the league. Application Deadline May 13 2017

first_imgApplication Deadline: May 13, 2017 1. Draper University  Since Nicki Minaj’s spontaneous offer to foot the bill for select Twitter followers’ college tuition and student loan payments over the weekend, everyone has had college tuition bills and student loan payments on the brain. For those who are considering a career in the tech industry, there are ways to bypass this financial headache, and they don’t involve soliciting celebrity aid on social media. What if you had the ability to obtain the type of training and education necessary to increase your tech aptitude via a program that takes less than four years to complete? And, what if this program, which has been specially designed to prepare students for the ever-evolving tech landscape, also offered scholarships to help ease the pain of tuition bills or potential loan payments? Byte Back, the D.C.-based  nonprofit and recent top-prize winner of WeWork’s Creator Awards, will help identify potential applicants to support ongoing technology and workforce training, as a result of its partnership. One full scholarship of $14,000 will go toward the full-time Web Development Bootcamp program. Application Deadline: May 24, 2017 As an employment partner, MEANS Database will provide job opportunities to graduates of Thinkful’s web development program. At MEANS, graduates will help program a website that has rescued over 100,000 pounds of food that would otherwise have been thrown away. Washington, D.C. is making a major push to increase diversity numbers within the tech industry in the district, thanks in major part to Mayor Muriel Bowser. According to a recent press release, “The Washington D.C. Economic Partnership (WDCEP)–in partnership with Thinkful and D.C.’s Inclusive Innovation Incubator, In3–announce the launch of a pilot program called Pathway Scholars, to prepare underrepresented workers for jobs in tech.” The first scholarship of its kind,  these organizations have pulled together a group of stacked partners–including Byte Back, MEANS Database, and others–to launch the initiative designed to help displaced, adult workers find a job in tech by funding their training. Here are the deets, according to Thinkful.com: Five Pathway Scholarships will be offered–one full scholarship and four partial scholarships–to Thinkful’s flagship, six-month course in web development. Each scholar will work with a mentor, who is an expert in the field. These mentors will come from D.C.-based companies, and they will help scholars learn best practices, grow their networks, and prepare them for the challenges of their first tech jobs. The mentorships will take place in In3. Hack Reactor is a coding boot camp that is offering six scholarships, valued at $18,000 each, specifically to people of color.According to Hack Reactor’s website:“As part of our mission to increase access to tech jobs for individuals of all professional backgrounds and experience levels, Hack Reactor is proud to announce our $1.3 million Scholarship Fund, for individuals who are passionate about coding.Hack Reactor believes in a more diverse and equitable tech workforce. (Image: WOCinTech) According to Draper University’s website, the curriculum is designed to help students “go from an idea, to a product ready to pitch to [over] 80 venture capital investors.” As a Draper University alumna, I can attest to this myself. In this one-liner’s deference, a product’s preparedness for pitch is ultimately dependent on the student’s effort. However,  Draper University staff members are all ready and willing to help students reach that point. Draper University now offers scholarships to assist students with the program’s tuition. While the program doesn’t publicize these scholarships, I have the inside scoop. Once you apply, ask specifically about your scholarship options. Draper University is on a mission to increase diversity, so now is a better time than ever to enroll.  3. Hack Reactor Here are three programs, which provide students with the coding or entrepreneurial skills needed to excel in the tech industry, that are currently offering scholarships:  Sequoia Blodgett is the Technology Editor for Black Enterprise, Silicon Valley.
