The B&H handball team ended their qualification for the World Championship in Qatar next year with a defeat of 27:26 by Portugal. However, even before this match the B&H handball players secured first place in the group and barrage for placement in the World Championship.The Portuguese entered the match in better form, and at the early stage of the game were in front by four goals. Afterwards, the B&H players played better, and managed to tie the score in the middle of the first half. By the end of halftime, the host team had the lead with 14:13.The Portuguese team then managed to maintain a minimum lead. The opponent of B&H in the third appearance of the barrage will be known on 26 January in Denmark, on the last day of the European Championships. Opening Ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was held at Maracana Stadium.Two weeks after the closing of the Olympic Games, the 15th Summer Paralympic Games (POI) were open in Rio, which will last until the 18th of September. Games were opened by the President of Brazil, Michel Temer.The team of BiH has a total of 24 members, of which 14 are athletes, 12 in sitting volleyball and two in athletics.At the opening ceremony, athlete Dzenita Klico carried the flag of BiH.The national team of BiH in sitting volleyball, the most successful BH selection, will be seeking for the fifth Paralympic medal in Rio. In four consecutive performances in the finals, BH volleyball team won gold in Athens in 2004 and London in 2012, and silver in Sydney 2000 and Beijing in 2008.Volleyball players of BiH on the Paralympic tournament, which starts on the 9th of September, will play in Group B with teams of Iran, Ukraine and China, while in the Group A are Germany, Egypt, Brazil and the United States.BH team will start the competition with the match against Ukraine on the 10th of September at 2:30 pm Central European time, and two days later they will play against the selection of Iran at the same time, while on the 14th of September they will play against China. Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Bakir Izetbegovic, met in New York with the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor.During the meeting, Chairman Izetbegovic and President Pahor exchanged their views on the situation in BiH and the region, when it comes to recent events.The President of the Republic of Slovenia congratulated the Chairman Izetbegovic on acceptance of the application of BiH for membership in the European Union, describing it as a very important step. He expressed the readiness of Slovenia to continue with its support to BiH, especially when it comes to meeting the next steps on the path towards the European Union.Chairman Izetbegovic thanked for the strong support of Slovenia to BiH, especially in the process of Euro-Atlantic integration.They discussed the bilateral cooperation between the two countries at the meeting, with special focus on economic cooperation.Chairman Izetbegovic informed President Pahor that the reform process that are taking place in BiH in the context of the reform agenda are giving results, especially in the socio-economic domain. Forty-one years ago or more precisely on April 5, 1979 in the French Grenoble, Basketball Club Bosna achieved a historic win over the Italian Emerson and became a European champion for the first time, writes BH news agency Patria.In front of 12,000 fans, the popular “Students” were celebrating a great victory with score of 96:93. Back then, it was then the biggest success of Yugoslavian, and today it is still the largest Bosnia and Herzegovina’s basketball success.The lineup of generation of champions: Delibašić, Varajić, Vučević, Benaček, Đogić, Bosiočić, Izić, Radovanović, Hadžić, Pešić. The coach of this brilliant generation was the legendary Bogdan Boša Tanjević. In that game, Varajić scored 45 and Delibašić 30 points.This generation was written with golden letters in both Yugoslavian and European basketball. In the next four years, Bosnia has won two national titles – in the seasons 1979/80 and 1982/83.Last year, due to accumulated financial problems and debts, BC Bosna changed its name to BC Bosna Royal which caused many controversies among basketball fans of this legendary club.
